Coit Tower Trip = New Bannerhead
Now that blogging is all the rage at the lunch table, I decided to get a little fancier with mine. It's an arms race, dammit, and I can't afford to fall behind.
This weekend, in a fit of actually-getting-off-my-ass-and-doing-something, Valerie and I took a walk up to Coit Tower. We are lucky to have a sweet view of this San Francisco landmark from our apartment, but have never taken the time to actually go check it out.
The trek, while not far (maybe two miles), took us down to the bottom of Russian Hill, across the upper part of North Beach (Washington Square Park was PACKED due to the warm snap[1]), and up the slope of Telegraph Hill.First, we coughed up $3 each to take the elevator ride to the top (no stairs for you cheapskates). The view from the top is spectacular-- 360 degrees of northeast San Francisco and downtown, the Bay Bridge, Treasure Island, Oakland and Berkeley, the Marin Headlands, Alcatraz, Angel Island, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
After a return trip on the elevator, we hung out on the grass, drank a bottle of wine we brought[2], and enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather.
So the new bannerhead[3] is a shot I took from the steps of the tower, past the statue and flag in the center of the parking circle, and across San Francisco bay to Alcatraz and Angel Island. I have a bunch of other cool ones (from other places) I'd like to start rotating, if I can figure out how to do it-- so far I don't think the free blogger can handle SSIs.
[1] Warm snap? Can I say that?
[2] I know, such a San Franciscan thing to do. Now let me get back to listening to my NPR PodCast, eating my Whole Foods deli sandwich, and shaking my puny fist at W.
